Abstract
Andrej Karpathy’s Software 3.0 framing is a useful way to discuss natural-language instructions as part of a software system. His official YC talk, Software Is Changing (Again), released 17 June 2025, provides the original talk context. Treat the framing as a concept for design and discussion, not a measured production guarantee.
When instructions affect outputs or tool actions, give them versions, acceptance criteria and an owner. Anthropic’s 19 December 2024 guide to effective agents describes task-scoped workflows and agents. This paper connects instructions, structural validation, business checks, evaluation and review through a simple invoice example, without assuming one check proves the whole system correct.
